BI/Data Engineer: Unlocking Insights from Big Data

Become a BI/Data Engineer and dive into the world of big data to extract meaningful insights that fuel GM’s strategic decisions. In this role, you will work with vast datasets and cutting-edge technologies like Hadoop, Greenplum, and PowerBI to build and maintain a robust data infrastructure. Are You Ready to Apply? Required Qualifications

To be eligible for the GM Early Career Talent Coding Challenge and these exciting positions, you must meet the following required qualifications:

  • Educational Background: Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related STEM field.
  • Graduation Timeline: Must be graduating between January 2022 and September 2024.
  • Work Authorization: GM DOES NOT PROVIDE IMMIGRATION-RELATED SPONSORSHIP FOR THIS ROLE. DO NOT APPLY FOR THIS ROLE IF YOU WILL NEED GM IMMIGRATION SPONSORSHIP (e.g., H-1B, TN, STEM OPT, etc.) NOW OR IN THE FUTURE.
  • Full-Time Availability: Able to work full-time, 40 hours per week.

  • Shift Flexibility: These roles may require working second or third shifts or being available on call if needed.

Gain a Competitive Edge: Preferred Qualifications

While not mandatory, the following preferred qualifications will significantly enhance your application and give you a competitive edge:

  • Programming Experience: Hands-on experience with programming languages such as Java, .NET, or others.
  • Database Knowledge: Familiarity with XML and relational databases (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL).
  • Packaged Software Proficiency: Experience with packaged software solutions like SAP, Workday, SharePoint, etc.
  • SDLC & Agile Methodologies: Knowledge of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum, Iterative, Waterfall).
  • Software Design Principles: Understanding of security, efficient code reuse, and robust software design principles.
  • Scripting & Administration Skills: Proficiency in computer programming, system administration, and/or scripting.
  • Security Expertise: Knowledge of security architectures, tools, and technologies, including experience in designing secure applications and data protection.
  • Cybersecurity Awareness: Familiarity with security forensics, vulnerability assessment, and policy implementation.
  • Collaboration & Teamwork: Excellent collaboration and teamwork skills with the ability to work effectively cross-functionally.
  • Infrastructure & IT Trends: Knowledge of infrastructure and emerging IT trends such as Cloud Computing.
  • DevOps & SRE Principles: Familiarity with DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles, and Networking.
