Grounded in osteopathic principles, our residents gain invaluable experience from a diverse range of patients, healthcare providers, and dynamic learning environments. This robust clinical education is enriched by inventive teaching methods and bolstered by our advanced skills laboratory.

Giving Residents a Competitive Edge in Women’s Healthcare

Our program is committed to delivering all-encompassing training, equipping our residents for outstanding success and to effectively “coding” themselves as future leaders in women’s health.

  • Ambulatory Breast Care: Focusing on outpatient breast health management.
  • OMM (Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine): Integrating osteopathic principles into patient care.
  • Colposcopy: Expertise in diagnosing and managing cervical and vaginal diseases.
  • Research: Cultivating research skills for evidence-based practice in women’s health.
  • Family Planning: Providing comprehensive reproductive health services and counseling.
  • Maternal Fetal Medicine: Managing high-risk pregnancies and fetal health.

Unique Osteopathic Principles and Practice (OPP) Integration

OMM training is a cornerstone of our osteopathic-focused, ACGME-accredited program. It starts with active participation in our innovative OMM teaching clinic. Education in OMM and OPP is further enhanced through Osteopathic Journal Clubs, specialized lectures, and hands-on laboratory sessions, ensuring residents are proficient in this vital aspect of patient care.

Exposure to Diverse Patient Populations and Healthcare Settings

Our residents gain experience with a wide spectrum of patients across various teaching hospitals. Rotations are strategically scheduled in teaching facilities where residents learn to provide care for diverse populations within our Community Hospital – DH, our Level I Trauma Center – GMC, our Suburban affiliate – RMH, and our University affiliate – OSU. This extensive exposure significantly broadens their knowledge base, refines their clinical skills, and enhances their proficiency as physicians dedicated to women’s health.

Setting the Gold Standard for Ultrasound Training in OB/GYN

Our esteemed preceding Program Director (James Perez, DO), in collaboration with our Director of Ultrasound Education (Lori Crites, RDMS), among other dedicated faculty, have established a benchmark for Ultrasound training within OB/GYN residency programs. Their pioneering work in this area is nationally recognized.

For further details, please refer to their published consensus report: Obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound curriculum and competency assessment in residency training programs: consensus report. American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology Volume 218, Issue 1, January 2018, Pages 29-67. This dedication to ultrasound excellence ensures our residents are exceptionally well-prepared in this essential diagnostic skill for women’s health physicians.

By the completion of this rigorous four-year program, our residents emerge as highly skilled, competent, and empathetic healthcare providers. They are thoroughly prepared to excel in any clinical environment, equipped with the expertise and compassion to make a significant impact in women’s health.
